The Alcove

The Alcove in Jeffersonville, was very dirty and the drinks are something I could get for free at a college frat house. Honestly if you truly enjoy a dirty college dorm you will love this place. My friends and I came here for an afternoon cocktail and instead became the victims of hate speech and intolerance. My friend went to the bar to ask for a drink and was propositioned by a homeless woman who ran her hand down her arm and provocatively asked for a free drink. My friend refused to purchase the drink and stepped out front to smoke a cigarette. As she was smoking the same woman came out and again asked for a free drink and cigarette. My friend once again denied the request and asked the lady to please leave her alone. At this a whole table of patrons “men”, began calling my friend Karen and telling her to leave because she was being “intolerant”. A gentleman if you can call him that ( openly smoking a blunt) even said my sister is homeless…. Like sir I’m sorry for your family situation but do not attack my friend verbally for asking for personal space and boundaries. They then went and got the bar tender who asked her to leave the woman alone ( she wasn’t even talking to her). My friend paid for two tabs and tipped 25 dollars. She was a patron of the bar and was treated with less respect than an individual trying to get a free buzz. If you enjoy a pseudo “tolerant”, hipster bar where they give better service to non paying people you will love this place. I am truly shocked and appalled at the way the establishment and patrons treated a paying customer. If I could give negative stars I would. Also let me repeat first and foremost the drinks are swill. I’m shocked downtown Jeffersonville allows an establishment like this to remain open. Sorry I forgot to put the date and time of the incident. It occurred on 06/20/23, at 10:45pm. The bartender had an oblivion tattoo on his right back leg and another on his back left. He was also attempting to give free drinks to other certain patrons ( which I believe is illegal). I am sorry this behavior caught you off guard, I can’t imagine the frustration you must feel as an owner hearing of such behavior. Hopefully you can fix the situation however my friends and I will not be coming to this establishment ever again.
